Family Walking

Adoptive & Foster Families

If you are here, it is because you are an adoptive or foster parent or perhaps you are considering becoming one.  The Nurture Place is hugely committed to adoption and foster care.  Trauma-informed care, attachment and adoption competency are a core part of our programs.  Many parents feel overwhelmed and isolated and, at times, they feel like there is nowhere to turn.  The needs of our children who’ve suffered trauma and adversity before coming to our homes are unique.  And, we, as their parents and caregivers must understand these complexities.  We believe that family support in a safe environment combined with evidenced-based programs, trauma-informed & adoption competent professionals and resources will help you and your children thrive.

Our adoption and foster parents program includes:

TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection.

The Circle of Security® is an innovative intervention program designed to improve the developmental pathway of children and their parents.  As children grow older, secure children become less likely to live in poverty, have legal problems, or experience chronic emotional difficulties.

Play Therapy and Family Therapy are forms of therapy used to help children and families experience healthy, connected relationships, process emotions and express needs. To a child, it may feel like an ordinary playtime because play is a child's natural language.  Children process and express their inner world and experiences through play, promoting healing and integration of a healthy self ready for development and growth in all areas.

Adoptive & Foster Families can schedule an initial assessment, including the expertise of a licensed mental health counselor, an adoption and foster care specialist and TBRI® practitioner. Together, an individualized plan of action will be created to guide you through your parenting journey.

We want every child to learn strategies that help them heal and thrive!  A huge part of doing this well is through the equipping of parents and caregivers with trauma-informed & adoption-informed resources.
